Brief Biography | Professor Gautam Ray studied in Presidency College, Calcutta for his B.Sc. (Honours) degree and in the University College of Science and Technology, Calcutta, for his M.Sc. degree in Chemistry before joining Indian civil service in 1979. He studied Law in Delhi University and earned his LL.B. degree from the University in 1992. Between 1995 and 2000 he pursued graduate studies in economics in Boston University and earned his MA in Economics and Ph.D. in Economic Geography. He taught at Boston University’s School of Management from 2002 through 2003 before returning to Indian Revenue Service. In 2015 he retired from civil service and joined as Chair Professor, Graduate School of Management, Kyoto University, Japan. He is now a full time Professor in charge of International Academic Research Institute at Kyoto University of Advanced Science, Japan. He is the Founder Vice-President of Asian Institute of Public Policy and Development Studies, Kolkata. |
Research Overview
Shri Ray's research has focussed on inclusive development and growth dynamics of value generating activities in human societies. He received Kyoto University's Best Professor Award in 2019. He had earlier received fellowship of the World Bank, Washington DC, in 1995-1997.His current research explores the mechanics how cultural-institutional factors including scientific-spirituality may drive inclusive development and growth dynamics of value generating activities in the emerging post-industrial knowledge societies of humanity in the 21st century.
