学生ら約60名が参加しオルゴール講演会をオンライン開催しました

本学工学部とケイマリインターナショナル株式会社※1は5月19日（水）、新オルゴールのアイデアコンペ「音の無限大コンテスト※2」の一環である「オルゴール講演会」をオンライン形式で開催しました。参加した学生ら約60名は、講演会の予約特典として受け取っていた18弁のオルゴールを手に取りながら、講師の日本電産サンキョー株式会社オルゴール事業推進部開発企画部開発企画グループ長 宮本克紀様によるオルゴールにまつわる講演に熱心に耳を傾けていました。

講演で宮本様からは、オルゴールの歴史をはじめ、音が鳴る仕組み、製造方法に加えて、通産省から受託しGHQにオルゴールを200台納品したエピソードなど、創業75年ならではの余談をまじえながらお話いただきました。特に振動板の厚みによる音の調律や、振動板をはじく針の製造方法などオルゴールに込められた技術に関しては、講演後、学生からも質問が飛び交うなど盛り上がりを見せました。

なお、今夏に予定している本学学生対象の新オルゴールアイデアコンペに日本電産サンキョー株式会社の方に審査員としてご参加いただき、老舗オルゴールメーカーとしてご指導いただきます。

A lecture on music boxes was held online with about 60 student participants

On May 19 (Wed), the KUAS Faculty of Engineering and kmari International Co., Ltd. (1*) held an online lecture about music boxes as part of the "Infinity of Sound Contest (2*)”, a competition for new music box ideas. The lecture on music boxes was given by Mr. Katsuki Miyamoto, head of the Development Planning Group in the Development Planning Department, Music Box Business Promotion Division at Nidec Sankyo Corporation. About 60 students took part in the event and listened intently to the lecturer while holding an 18-note music box that some students had received as a special gift for booking in advance.

In his lecture, Mr. Miyamoto talked about the history of music boxes, the mechanisms they employ to make sound, manufacturing methods, as well as stories unique to a business with a history spanning over 75 years including 200 music boxes to GHQ on commission from the Ministry of International Trade and Industry. After the lecture, students showed their interest by asking many questions regarding the technology behind music boxes such as questions about the tuning of the sound based on the thickness of the vibration plate and the manufacturing method of the pin that plucks the teeth on the vibration plate.

In addition, Nidec Sankyo Corporation will be participating as a judge and providing guidance, as a long-established music box manufacturer, in the new music box idea competition for KUAS students scheduled for this summer
