The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS, https://twas.org/) awarded the BAS-TWAS Young Scientists Prize in Biological Sciences 2016 to Associate Professor Md ASADUZZAMAN from the Faculty of Bioenvironmental Sciences. This Young Scientists Prize, awarded by TWAS and its partners, is among the most prestigious awards given to early-career scientists who are already making impressive contributions to their fields in the developing world.
On December 2, 2024, the Bangladesh Academy of Sciences (BAS, https://www.bas.org.bd/), a partner organization of TWAS, organized the ceremony at the National Science and Technology Complex in Dhaka, Bangladesh. This award was given to Md Asaduzzaman for his remarkable research contributions in studying autotoxicity in recycled hydroponics and its overcoming strategies. His research also focused on the production of specialty fruits and vegetables through hydroponics and soilless culture, providing human health benefits.
TWAS has long recognized that awards provide an incentive for scientists to do their best work, while also granting them global recognition. It is notable that the award ceremony was held several years later due to the outbreak of COVID-19 and the organizational policies of the Bangladesh Academy of Sciences.
