研究内容

ミャンマーとラオスで、森林バイオマス、森林管理、民族的土地利用に関する様々な研究プロジェクトを行っており、第1次研究では、ダム建設に伴うカバウン流域の森林被覆変化を分析し、環境影響評価にRS/GISの利用を推奨した。大学院では、ミャンマーの休閑林のバイオマス推定のためのアロメトリックモデルを新たに確立し、混種林や竹類に適用した。また、落葉樹混種の休閑林のバイオマス再成長を推定し、休閑林のバイオマス総蓄積量の経年変化に対する曲線を確立した。同様の研究をミャンマー西部のチン丘陵やラオス北東部でも行った。それぞれのケーススタディで異なる社会経済的条件が観察され、ラオスでは休眠林のバイオマスの回復が早く、村の生産林のバイオマスのレベルに達するのに約6年かかることがわかった。さらに、休眠林の地下バイオマスと土壌炭素蓄積量を推定した。大学院の研究を終えた後、私は様々な共同研究プロジェクトに協力した。その中には、木材燃料消費の評価、ミャンマーにおけるREDD+の状況の評価、土地利用と保有権の変化、森林資源の連邦制、山での家族農業の変化が焼畑労働者の生活に与える影響の評価などが含まれる。現在、私は2つの研究プロジェクトに参加している: 「ラオス、ミャンマー、ベトナムにおけるジェンダー、気候変動、森林ガバナンス」 と「誰のための公平?熱帯森林農業フロンティアの変革における政治、権力、そして緊急性」だ 。

I have conducted various research projects related to forest biomass, forest management and ethnic land uses in Myanmar and Lao PDR. The first research analyzed the forest cover changes in Kabaung sub-watershed due to dam construction, and recommended the use of RS/GIS for the environmental impact assessments. During my graduate study, I newly established the allometric models for biomass estimation of fallow forests in Myanmar, which were applied to mixed-species forests and bamboo species. Also, I estimated the biomass regrowth of fallow forests with mixed deciduous species and established a curve of total biomass accumulation in the fallows against age. I conducted similar studies in the Chin Hills, western Myanmar and also in northeastern Laos. Different socio-economic conditions were observed in each case study, and I found out that recovery in biomass of forest fallows in Laos was rapid, taking about 6 years to attain the biomass levels of the village production forests. In addition, I estimated below-ground biomass and soil carbon accumulation in the fallows. After completing the graduate study, I collaborated on various joint-research projects, including the assessment of woodfuel consumption, the context of REDD+ in Myanmar, and assessing land use and tenure change, forest resource federalism, as well as the impacts of changes in mountain family farming on the livelihoods of swiddeners. Currently, I am participating in two research projects, which include "Gender, climate change, and forest governance in Laos, Myanmar, and Vietnam"; and "Fair for whom? Politics, Power and Precarity in Transformations of Tropical Forest-agriculture Frontiers".
