この夏（2022)、京都先端科学大学（以下、「KUAS」) に入学したウクライナ人留学生2名が、株式会社島津製作所様のご協力のもと、有償インターンシップに参加しました。７月下旬から約1か月間のインターンシップは、京都市西京区の同社の施設で行われ、同社が誇る高精度電子機器の製造に必要な基礎技術力を身に付ける機会となりました。
KUASでは、ウクライナからの学生に対する支援を充実させたいと考えています。日本の文化や日本語の語学取得の機会を提供しているほか、学生たちが日本で自立した生活を送れるよう有償インターンシップの機会も提供しています。
今回のインターンシップに参加したのは、ウクライナのハルキウ地方出身の男女各1名の学部生です。もともとは医師、社会学者を目指していましたが、現在はウクライナの再建に貢献するためエンジニアの道へと進むべくKUASで学んでいます。
このような機会を得ることで、ウクライナの学生たちは技術者として成功するために不可欠な技術力を学ぶことができました。職場の皆様の温かいご支援で安全な環境での企業体験を通し、再び将来に目を向け、日本での生活をスタートすることができました。
夏の終わりとともにインターンシップは無事終了し、学生はKUASでの勉強を開始しました。今回のインターンシップで得た経験は大いに役立つことは間違いないでしょう。
今後も島津製作所様のご支援・協力のもと様々な分野におけるパートナーシップを継続させていただきたいと考えています。今回のような取り組みによって、ウクライナ人学生たちの社会参画も実現していけることを期待しています。
This summer, two Ukrainain students who recently came to Kyoto University of Advanced Science (KUAS) were provided with paid internships thanks to the cooperation of Shimadzu Corporation.
During the month-long internship from the end of July, the two Ukrainians had an opportunity to work in the main facilities of Shimadzu Corporation at Nishigyo Ward, Kyoto City, where they learned the basic technical skills required to manufacture the high precision electronic equipment which Shimadzu Corporation is known for.
The Ukrainian students who participated in this internship were one boy and one girl from the Kharkiv region of Ukraine. Prior to the invasion and their journey to Japan, the boy was studying to become a doctor, and the girl a sociologist. However, the war changed the course of their lives, and they are now studying at KUAS to become engineers so that they can help rebuild their country after the war.
By providing these Ukrainians with internships immediately after their arrival in Japan, Shimadzu Corporation has provided essential technical skills that will help our students to succeed in their studies as engineers, but also provided them with a safe, productive environment where they can re-focus on their futures and learn about what it means to work in a Japanese company.
At the end of summer, the internship was successfully concluded, and the Ukrainians began their studies at KUAS, and it is certain that the experiences they gained at Shimadzu Corporation will be of great utility in their future studies. It is the hope of KUAS to continue our partnership with Shimadzu Corporation in many forms, and we would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the staff and leadership of Shimadzu Corporation who made this internship possible.
