The Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) has granted funding to Md Asaduzzaman for an international collaborative research project in the field of “Digital Transformations and Robotics in Sustainable Agriculture” (JST Press Release#1745: JST to fund six projects as a part of the EIG CONCERT-Japan initiative of the Strategic International Collaborative Research Program (SICORP)). It is part of the EIG CONCERT-Japan initiative, in cooperation with 13 funding agencies from 12 European countries under the Strategic International Collaborative Research Program (SICORP) program
Challenges of real-time nutrient management can be overcome by employing advanced spectroscopy and machine learning for continuous, accurate, and automated nutrient management. Therefore, this project aims to develop an advanced AI-driven system for the precise estimation and management of NPK (Nitrogen, Phosphorus, Potassium) levels in hydroponic cultivation systems (AI-Enhanced NPK Management for Optimized Hydroponic Cultivation – EIG CONCERT Japan).

The Japanese team will validate the AI-driven nutrient management system through practical trials at the Smart Ari-house, to ensure the practicability and robustness of the developed technology. The Czech Mendel University team will conduct cultivation trials of various crops in a soilless system to evaluate internal quality parameters. The Hahn-Schickard Germany team will develop an AI system integrated spectrometer with flow cell integration for inline spectral recording, and hardware-software integration for reading NPK of the nutrient solution.
The expected collaborations will develop an AI-driven system for NPK management to produce fruits and vegetables rich in antioxidants and bioactive compounds.
