【速報】工学部ならびに大学院工学研究科 設置認可について

　京都先端科学大学（京都市右京区・学長 前田正史）は2020年4月の工学部および大学院工学研究科開設の設置認可を申請しておりましたが、この度、文部科学省の大学設置・学校法人審議会において、設置を「可」とする答申が11月15日に出されました。この答申を受け、近日中に文部科学大臣より認可書が交付される予定であり、2020年４月に工学部機械電気システム工学科並びに大学院工学研究科機械電気システム工学専攻を開設する運びとなりました。

　京都先端科学大学は、工学部の開設により、既存の学部（経済経営学部・人文学部・バイオ環境学部・健康医療学部）を含め、5学部11学科の総合大学となります。工学部をハブとして、グローバル社会に必須のデータサイエンス、AIなどについても基礎と応用の教育と研究を行い、世界が求めている多分野にまたがる幅広い課題に対応して参ります。

工学部カリキュラムの特徴

▶制御、ロボティクス、シミュレーション、 AI、データサイエンス等に必須の基礎力として、物理と数学に従来のカリキュラムの1.5倍の授業時間（演習含む）をあてます。

▶体験先行型カリキュラムを実施します。１年次から、ロボットの製作や制御を実践し、課題の発見、分析、ソリューション提案、実施、評価に取り組みます。

▶“キャップストーンプロジェクト“を開講します。３年次、４年次では、企業と連携して実際の現場が直面している課題を、学生のチームが複数教員の指導を受けて解決するプロジェクト型教育を行います。

▶機械工作ラボ、電気・電子工作ラボ、プログラムラボはいつでも使えます。部品や材料は無料です。

▶１年次前期には90分の英語授業を週10コマ、２年次終了時までに通算21コマの実践的な英語を学びます。専門科目の授業は英語で実施、日本語のフォローもあり、英語が不得意な学生も歓迎します。

大学院工学研究科カリキュラムの特徴

▶機械電気システム工学をシステム・情報・材料・エネルギーの４領域に分類。工学・産業ニーズに対応しつつ、専門分野を深化する教育プログラムを提供します。授業はすべて英語で実施し、次世代の産業創出と新たな価値創出に貢献する高度な専門知識を有するグローバルな技術者・研究者を育成します。

[Preliminary Report] Approval of the Establishment of the Faculty of Engineering and the Graduate School of Engineering

Kyoto University of Advanced Science (Ukyo Ward, Kyoto City / School President: Masashi Maeda) applied for approval to establish a new Faculty of Engineering and Graduate School of Engineering. In April 2020. On November 15, 2019 the Council for Establishment of Universities and Incorporated Educational Institutions of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology submitted a report stating that the establishment of this Faculty of Engineering and the Graduate School of Engineering is acceptable. In response to this report, the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology is scheduled to issue a certificate of approval within the next few days. In April 2020, the Department of Mechanical and Electrical System Engineering of the Faculty of Engineering and the Division of Mechanical and Electrical System Engineering of the Graduate School of Engineering will be established.

With the opening of the Faculty of Engineering, Kyoto University of Advanced Science and Technology will have five faculties and 11 departments, including its existing faculties (the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration, the Faculty of Humanities, Faculty of Bioenvironmental Sciences, and Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences). With the Faculty of Engineering as a hub, Kyoto University of Advanced Science will provide basic and applied education and research on data science, AI, and other topics which are essential for global society while responding to a wide range of issues across an extensive range of fields for which global demand is increasing.

[Features of the Faculty of Engineering Curriculum]

▶ Students will spend 1.5 times more class time (including exercises) on physics and mathematics than traditional curricula as essential building blocks for control, robotics, simulation, AI, data science and more.
▶ Students will enjoy an experience-oriented curriculum. From the first year, students will practice robot production and control to discover and analyze issues and propose, implement, and evaluate solutions.
▶ The Faculty of Engineering will commence a “Capstone Project.” In the third and fourth years of education, students will be provided with project-based learning in which a team of students solves problems in actual workplaces in cooperation with companies under the guidance of multiple teachers.
▶ Students will have access to machine, electrical and electronic, and program labs.Parts and materials will be free of charge.
▶ Students will have ten 90-minute English lessons per week in the first semester of their first year of study, and a total of 21 practical English lessons by the end of their second year. All specialized courses will be conducted in English, with Japanese-language follow-up courses, so students who are not good at English may also enroll.

[Characteristics of the Graduate School of Engineering Curriculum]

▶ Mechanical and Electrical System Engineering will be classified into four areas: Systems, Information, Materials, and Energy. The Graduate School will provide educational programs that deepen students’ specialization while meeting engineering and industrial needs. All classes will be conducted in English to foster global engineers and researchers with advanced expertise who can contribute to the creation of next-generation industries and value.
