京都太秦キャンパスにて、英語イベント「撮りもの競争」を開催しました！

2021年12月8日(水)、京都先端科学大学・京都太秦キャンパスにおいて、国際センターとインターンシップセンターの共催による英語イベント「Photo Scavenger Hunt（撮りもの競争）」を開催いたしました。

アメリカ、インド、タイなど世界各国から来た国際学生（※）8名をはじめ、在学生、教職員あわせて27名が参加しました。

イベント名にある「Scavenger Hunt」は、日本語でいう「借りもの競争」にあたりますが、今回は写真撮影という手段を使って行うため、ゲーム名を「撮りもの競争」と名付けました。
ゲームのルールは、40分間の制限時間内に、課題としてあらかじめ出題された人、物、場所等の対象物を撮影し、より多くの写真を撮影できたチームが勝ちとなります。参加者らは5つのグループに分かれ、ルール説明を受けた後、英文で記載された課題リストを配付されました。開始後、各チームはそれぞれに分かれキャンパス内を巡り写真を撮影しました。

ここで課題の例を2つご紹介します。

これらの課題に対し、各チームは次のような写真を撮影しました。

今回のイベントでは、ルール説明や参加者同士のコミュニケーションもすべて英語で行いました。新型コロナウイルス感染症対策のため、大きな声で話すことはできませんでしたが、制限時間内にできるだけ多くの写真を撮ろうと、各チームのメンバーは熱心に協力しあいました。

最後の結果発表では、得点の多かった上位3チームに賞品として、輸入菓子の入ったギフトバッグが、その他のチームにも、参加賞として海外のチョコレートが贈られました。

An English-language “Photo Scavenger Hunt” was held at Kyoto Uzumasa Campus!

On Wednesday, December 8, 2021, an English-language "Photo Scavenger Hunt" event was held at Kyoto University of Advanced Science's Kyoto Uzumasa Campus by the International Office and Internship Center.

27 KUAS students, faculty, and staff participated, including eight international students* from different regions of the world such as America, India, and Thailand.

The Japanese title of this event is “Torimono-kyoso (撮りもの競争)”. In Japanese, “Karimono-kyoso (借りもの競争)" is the word for scavenger hunt. “Kari (借り)” means “to borrow,” so this time we changed that part of the word to “tori (撮り)”, which means “to take pictures” .

The event consisted of a game in which participants completed challenges by taking pictures of designated people, things, and places within a 40-minute time limit. The team that could take the most photos within the time limit would win. Participants were divided into five groups and given a list of photo challenges written in English after an explanation of the game rules. At the start of the game, the groups went around the campus to take pictures while maintaining social distance.

This event was conducted entirely in English, from the explanation of the rules, to the participants’ communication with each other. Although it was not possible to talk loudly to due to COVID-19 prevention measures, all the teams collaborated enthusiastically to take as many photos as possible within the time limit.

At the end of the game, the top three teams with the most points received gift bags filled with imported sweets as prizes, and the other teams received chocolates from overseas as participation prizes.

This event was planned and organized by the staff of the International Office and the Internship Center as part of the university's efforts to promote globalization. We will continue to hold such events in the future and look forward to the participation of all students, faculty, and staff.

*The term "international students" refers to students with international backgrounds, including students from overseas.
