General

On October 20th, 25 students from Kyoto University of Advanced Science (KUAS) joined the annual Sannō Festival, held near Uzumasa Campus. The event, centered around the 900-year-old Sannō Shrine, is a key cultural tradition in the area. With the support of the KUAS Student Guardian Association, students from 14 countries, including Japan, France, Spain, and India, carried the mikoshi (portable shrine) through the Yamanouchi area alongside local residents, contributing as active participants.

Students reflected on the deep connection they felt with the local community and the immersive cultural experience. Many expressed a desire to join future festivals, with one participant noting, “Carrying the mikoshi alongside local residents brought Japanese tradition much closer to us.” The event not only offered insight into Japanese culture but also encouraged students to strengthen ties with the local community.

KUAS supports these opportunities for cultural exchange, aiming to help students engage with the local community and contribute from a global perspective.
