On February 21, Tsukiho Fujitani, a fourth-year student of KUAS Faculty of Engineering (currently a KUAS Graduate School of Engineering first-year), won the 2024 Japan Society of Robotics Excellent Student Award. This award is presented to students who have achieved excellent academic results and are expected to contribute to future development in the field of robotics.

Fujitani’s research focused on the development of small ultrasonic motors, which are essential for the operation of medical and inspection devices that are becoming increasingly smaller. In order to overcome the limitations of conventional motors and achieve practical output in a smaller size, she used a different vibration mode as driving principle and successfully developed a motor that measures just a few millimeters.

When receiving the award, Fujitani reflected on her research activity and spoke about her future goals, “The research I conducted was tough and presented me with a lot of first times, but I am delighted to receive such an award. I want to continue actively conducting research in the future.”

Currently, Fujitani is continuing her research as a first-year student of KUAS Graduate School of Engineering master’s program. We look forward to her future success.
