Kameoka Campus — Natural Serenity and Expansive Learning

Kameoka City, located in the western part of Kyoto Prefecture, is known for its rich natural surroundings and peaceful atmosphere. Set on a gently sloping hillside, the Kameoka Campus spans an expansive 231,764 square meters, offering a spacious and inspiring environment for study and research. Although the campus extends across the hills of Kameoka, a bus stop located at the main entrance provides convenient access to Uzumasa Campus and three major train stations, ensuring easy connectivity.
Surrounded by abundant greenery, students can grow both academically and personally in a setting that supports physical and mental well-being. From athletic fields to wooded areas, the entire campus serves as a place of learning—encouraging hands-on education, exploration, and collaboration in close connection with nature.
Since the founding of KUAS in 1969, the campus has been expanded and continually developed. Today, it serves as a key base for advanced research and innovation. In its open and tranquil surroundings, time seems to flow at a more relaxed pace, allowing students to focus deeply on their studies while enjoying a balanced university life.

Expansive Grounds in a Nature-Rich Setting

Spanning a vast area, Kameoka Campus offers a comprehensive learning environment supported by extensive facilities. Numerous athletic facilities— including sports tracks, soccer fields, baseball fields, tennis courts, and gymnasiums—are used for Sports Life Skills (SLS) classes as well as club activities, encouraging students to develop physical strength and practical life skills in a fresh, open-air atmosphere.
Among the ten buildings on campus, the Bioenvironmental Sciences Building is the newest and most prominent, standing 11 stories tall. Housing all specialized classrooms and research laboratories for bioenvironmental sciences, it allows students to move seamlessly between lectures and experiments.

Additional buildings provide specialized spaces for academic and extracurricular activities, such as tea ceremony rooms and studios used by cultural clubs, while outdoor stages host concerts and performances during campus festivals. The generous campus size relative to the student population creates a relaxed atmosphere, with many spaces where students can unwind and pursue their interests.

Immersive and Research-Focused Learning Environment

Kameoka Campus fosters an academic atmosphere that encourages students to expand their horizons and engage deeply in research. The Bioenvironmental Sciences Building functions as an all-in-one research hub, enabling students to complete most indoor academic activities within a single facility. It is equipped with laboratories, research rooms, its own specialized library, and computer rooms.
The library houses resources related to bioenvironmental sciences and offers quiet study areas, while the computer rooms are equipped with desktop PCs and specialized software to support research and data analysis. In addition, the campus is home to the university’s largest Main Library, which features silent study spaces and collaborative learning areas, along with extensive collections in languages and general education subjects.

Beyond the Bioenvironmental Sciences Building, the campus includes largescale research facilities as well as agricultural fields and forested areas suitable for outdoor experiments. The expansive grounds also support advanced research using drones and autonomous vehicles. Through these environments, students engage in immersive, hands-on learning experiences that closely connect theory with practice. Dining and Campus Services

The cafeteria, newly renovated in 2025, provides affordable daily menus, including Japanese-style set meals, noodles, and curry, with vegan and halal-friendly options available.
During the academic term, food trucks visit regularly, offering a variety of international cuisines. Bento lunch boxes are also sold in the Bioenvironmental Sciences Building at lunchtime.
With its spacious grounds and abundance of outdoor benches and open areas, Kameoka Campus offers many pleasant spots where students can relax and enjoy their meals. Whether dining indoors or outside in the fresh air, students can experience a comfortable and refreshing lunchtime atmosphere.
The well-stocked convenience store offers snacks and beverages, while the bookstore provides textbooks, magazines, and stationery at discounted prices.

Research Collaboration and Innovation

Kameoka Campus serves as a major hub for research and industry collaboration.
At the Open Innovation Center Kameoka (OICK), researchers work with local organizations to develop functional vegetables and advance smart agriculture technologies. Within the Faculty of Bioenvironmental Science, the Future BioEnvironment Initiative-Center (FuBEIC) promotes new research and education aimed at sustaining the global environment and food systems. The center regularly hosts symposia and lectures. In addition, the Nagamori Institute of Actuators of the Faculty of Engineering collaborates with industry partners on advanced technological development, fostering innovation through joint research initiatives.
