Kyoto, JapanKyoto University of Advanced Science (KUAS) is pleased to announce that Dr. Wong Yong Jie from our Faculty of Bioenvironmental Science has been selected to receive a research grant from the Asahi Shuzo Memorial Foundation for 2025.

This prestigious grant program, established by the makers of the renowned Dassai sake, aims to support research and social activities that contribute to the promotion of water and nature-related sciences. The goal is to foster a rich water environment for both people and ecosystems, aligning with a commitment to a sustainable society.

Dr. Wong’s research theme is “Innovation in Next-Generation Biological Wastewater Treatment Technology: Grasping and Actively Controlling Biological Reaction Systems with AI.”

This cutting-edge research will use AI and machine learning to analyze and model microbial reactions in wastewater treatment in real-time. By actively controlling these processes, he aims to reduce environmental impact and improve treatment performance, especially concerning antibiotic-resistant bacteria.
