Here are the most common questions asked by applicants. If your question is not answered on this page, please contact the International Admissions Office. For questions not related to the admissions process, please click here.
Yes, they are the same. There is no advantage or disadvantage to applying in any particular period regarding scholarships or admission to the university. Regardless of the entry, the application and admission process is the same, but the schedule of each entry is different. Please note that you may only apply for one entry per intake, and there is only one intake (September enrollment) per year.
No. KUAS offers multiple application periods to give students the flexibility to apply when it best suits their schedule. There is no difference in admission or scholarship opportunities between the entry periods, and there is no difference in the criteria or content of the evaluation.
No. Applicants may only apply to KUAS once per academic year.
For example, if you apply during “Regular Entry” for the September 2026 intake, you cannot apply again during “Final Entry” for that same intake. If your application is not successful, the next opportunity to apply would be for the following academic year (e.g., for the September 2027 intake).
Yes, you can apply to a maximum of two different faculties by submitting two separate applications, but they must be within the same entry period. Within a single faculty that has multiple departments (like the Faculty of Bioenvironmental Sciences), you may only apply to one department.
No, you can only apply to one department per faculty.
For example, within the Faculty of Bioenvironmental Sciences, you must choose to apply to either the Department of Environmental and Bioresource Sciences or the Department of Applied Biological Sciences, but not both.
However, it is possible to apply to a maximum of two different faculties.
No. When you apply to KUAS, you must select a specific faculty you wish to enter.
Our programs are designed to provide specialized knowledge from the very beginning of your studies. We encourage you to explore the curriculum and features of each faculty on our website to find the program that best matches your academic and career goals before you apply.
Yes, you can apply before you have graduated high school, as long as you will have completed a 12-year standard education (or equivalent qualification recognized by MEXT, as listed in our Application Guidelines) by the time of enrollment.
If you meet one of our eligibility criteria that does not have an age requirement, you can apply even if you are under 18. Please ensure you meet all other academic eligibility requirements as detailed in our Application Guidelines.

We recognize that the standard school education system in certain countries consists of 11 years. Applicants who have completed an 11-year curriculum recognized by the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology (MEXT) will be eligible to apply. For more details, please refer to the MEXT website.
Taking a gap year will not negatively impact your application or your consideration. There is no upper age limit for applicants to our English-medium programs. We welcome applicants with diverse backgrounds and experiences.
No. All international programs at KUAS are taught in English, so there is no Japanese language requirement for admission. After admission, international students take Japanese language classes to improve their Japanese fluency.
To ensure you can thrive in our all-English program, you must provide proof of your English proficiency by submitting a valid score from an accepted test. We accept scores from the following proficiency tests:
TOEFL iBT (including Home Edition and MyBest™ scores)
IELTS Academic
PTE Academic
Duolingo English Test
Please note that you may be exempt from this requirement based on your educational background. For the specific minimum scores for each test and details on our English language waiver policy, please see the Eligibility page or our Application Guidelines.
Furthermore, this is a separate requirement from the standardized test (e.g., SAT/ACT). Submitting one does not exempt you from the other.
Those who have completed an IBDP in English, or have studied in one of the countries listed in the Application Guidelines for the last three years of their formal education in English may be exempted from the English test requirement.
Those who have studied in an English-medium school in a country other than the listed countries may be eligible for a waiver upon submission of a letter from a teacher at their school. Details of the letter can be found in our Application Guidelines.
Those who meet the eligibility to apply to the university will also be eligible to apply for our scholarships. The application for KUAS scholarships is within the application to the university, so if you are interested, be sure to indicate your interest on the appropriate section of the application.
The requirement for a standardized test depends on the faculty you are applying to:
Faculty of Engineering: Mandatory. All applicants to the Faculty of Engineering must submit a score from an accepted standardized test.
Faculty of Bioenvironmental Sciences: Optional. Submission of standardized test scores is not required but is recommended.
Faculty of Economics and Business Administration: Optional. Submission of standardized test scores is not required but is recommended.
For a complete list of all accepted tests, please refer to our Application Guidelines.
You must upload a copy of your score report directly into your online application portal. For those submitting SAT or ACT results, in addition to uploading your score report, you must also request that the official scores be sent directly to KUAS from the testing organization.
For more information, please refer to our Application Guidelines.
Yes, SAT Superscores are accepted. Please have your scores sent to KUAS directly from College Board.
If you are applying to our all-English international programs, you may take the English version of the Examination for Japanese University Admission for International Students (EJU).
The specific subjects you are required to take depend on the faculty you are applying to. For detailed information on which EJU subjects you should take for your desired faculty, as well as for all other accepted standardized tests, please refer to our Application Guidelines.
For those applying to the Faculty of Engineering, we cannot accept late submissions for opt-in standardized tests such as the SAT, ACT, EJU, GED, or AP test. For tests that are part of your national or local board of education curriculum, late submissions may be accepted.
For those applying to other faculties, no standardized tests may be submitted after the deadline (except for tests with predicted scores accepted by KUAS).
All required documents, including official standardized test scores, must be received by KUAS before the application deadline. Unfortunately, we cannot accept scores that arrive late.
Unfortunately, we do not provide fee waivers for sending official test scores under any circumstances. Applicants are responsible for covering all costs associated with sending their scores from the testing institution.

TOEFL iBT results must be sent directly to KUAS from the testing institution. IELTS results may be scanned and uploaded directly to your application.
A waiver can be granted if the most recent three years of your formal education were conducted entirely in English. If your MOI letter confirms this and meets all the specific requirements outlined in our Application Guidelines, it can be accepted.
Other than the KUAS Certificates of (Expected) Graduation Form, there are no documents for which you are required to use an official KUAS form.
If you have not yet graduated, please have your school official fill out the KUAS Certificates of (Expected) Graduation Form. If you have not undergone any education for five or more years and it is difficult for your high school to use the form, you may submit your high school diploma.
No, a certificate of expected graduation must be submitted to confirm that you will have graduated by the time of enrollment.

There is no specific KUAS format for the predicted score document itself. However, the document you submit must be officially signed and stamped by your school.

All applications must be submitted through the TAO portal. Once a new application period opens, you will be able to create an account and complete your application online. You can work on and submit your application at any time, including on weekends and holidays, regardless of our office hours. Flywire offers various payment methods, including bank transfers and credit cards. However, the options available to you will depend on your country of residence. If a specific method like “bank transfer” does not appear on the payment page, it means that this option is not available for your region.
In this case, you will need to select one of the other available payment methods listed on Flywire to complete your transaction.
Please contact your bank, or make an inquiry with Flywire directly for assistance.
