What is the academic calendar like?

KUAS follows a two-semester system: Fall and Spring.
Fall Semester: Early September to late January
Spring Semester: Early April to early August
There may be intensive Japanese language courses offered during the mid-term break. Please check the exact schedule after enrollment.

What kinds of facilities does KUAS have?

KUAS offers a wide range of facilities to support a fulfilling campus life for students.These include cafeterias, multiple libraries, convenience stores, and sports facilities.
For students studying fields such as engineering and bio-environmental sciences, there are also state-of-the-art laboratories and practical training facilities designed specifically to support hands-on learning and research. Please see their respective facility pages in the Academics section.

Does KUAS have its own gym, and what is the fee for students?

Yes, we have a gym facility at our Kameoka Campus that is free for all students to use.

What kind of extracurricular activities are available at KUAS?

There are a wide variety of student clubs, both athletic and cultural, and many students actively participate in them. Please see our Club Activities page for a full list.
In addition, there are several student communities that organize various events throughout the year. If you have a specific interest or goal, you can even start your own circle or project.
We fully support students in taking on new challenges and creating their own experiences during their time at KUAS.

Are international students allowed to have a part-time job at KUAS?

Yes. International students are permitted to work up to 28 hours per week during the school year, and up to 40 hours per week (8 hours per day) during spring, summer and winter vacations. More information and rules concerning part-time jobs will be provided to incoming students at their orientation.

What is the cost of a dormitory room per year?

The cost of our dormitories varies depending on the specific building and room type. The monthly rent, which includes all utilities, ranges from approximately 29,000 JPY to 63,000 JPY.

What housing options are available for students who prefer not to live in a dormitory?

Since Kyoto has a large student population, there are many student-friendly apartments available in convenient locations throughout the city.
If you are looking for off-campus housing, we can introduce you to English-speaking real estate agents who can help you find a suitable place.

Is student housing guaranteed?

Student housing is not guaranteed, as the number of dormitory rooms is limited. If there are more applicants than available rooms, a lottery system will be used to determine who can move in.
For students who are not assigned a dormitory room, our Housing Office provides alternative apartment accommodations nearby.

Can I stay in the dormitories during semester breaks and long holidays?

Yes, students are welcome to stay in the KUAS dormitories during all scheduled semester breaks and long holidays, including winter and summer vacations. 1 You will not be required to move out during these periods.

Do the cafeterias on campus offer vegetarian or halal food options?

Yes, the cafeterias provide vegetarian menu options.
In addition, during the semester, food trucks that visit the campuses occasionally offer halal food options.
