  • Dr. Mariko Gakiya is a Specially Appointed Professor in the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration (Global Business and Economics Program) and the Institute of International Academic Research at KUAS. An experienced academic and executive leader, Professor Gakiya’s work bridges higher education, international diplomacy, and cross-sector innovation. Her research explores leadership, organizational change, and the learning sciences within the context of digital transformation, emphasizing interdisciplinary and inclusive design perspectives as well as sustainable, human-centered systems.

    Professor Gakiya serves on executive boards and advises international organizations, corporations, foundations, and universities. Previously, she was the Founding Faculty Director of the Global Leadership Program at the University of Tokyo’s Graduate School of Medicine and has held faculty and advisory roles at Harvard University, Presidency University, and others. She earned her doctorate in Administration, Planning, and Social Policy from Harvard University, following postgraduate study at the University of Oxford.
