Masao Torii, a second-year Master’s student in the Graduate School of Engineering at Kyoto University of Advanced Science, has been awarded the “Best Presentation Award” at the 2025 Japan Society for Precision Engineering (JSPE) Autumn Meeting.

Mr. Torii presented his research titled “Mechanical Properties of 3D Printed Photo-curable Resin Nanostructures: Effects of Sample Size and Print Orientation.”

Groundbreaking Research in Nanomechanics Under the guidance of Dr. Takahiro Namazu (Faculty of Engineering; Specialization: Nanomechanics, Nanotechnology, Functional Materials), Mr. Torii utilized nanoscale 3D printers to create photo-curable resin nanostructures. Using a unique tensile testing technique, he successfully measured their Young’s modulus and fracture strength.

His research clarified how the size and print direction of these nanostructures affect their mechanical properties. With various functional nanodevices currently being proposed worldwide, Mr. Torii’s findings are expected to significantly contribute to improving the reliability of future technologies.
