Perfect Attendance Achieved at Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan | KUAS

General

As the historic Osaka-Kansai Expo 2025 concludes, Kyoto University of Advanced Science (KUAS) is proud to celebrate our deep and active participation. Our university community embraced the Expo’s theme of “Designing Future Society for Our Lives,” not just as spectators, but as active co-creators.

Our most exciting achievement was a university-wide “Perfect Attendance Award.” Through our “184-day Continuous Challenge,” KUAS students and staff visited the Expo every single day, from the opening on April 13 to the closing on October 13. This 184-day streak highlights our enthusiasm for this once-in-a-generation event in the Kansai region.

More Than Just Attending: We Participated

Our involvement went far beyond just visiting. KUAS was integrated into the Expo at every level, providing unique opportunities for our students in Japan:

Expo Pavilion Design: A KUAS faculty member, Associate Professor Naoki Hashimoto, supervised the basic design for the “Dynamic Equilibrium of Life” pavilion, one of the Expo’s signature attractions.

Global Ambassadorship: Our students were selected to participate in the Swiss Pavilion’s Student Ambassador Program, acting as volunteer staff and workshop facilitators.

Student Challenges: We hosted a “Pavilion PR Video Challenge,” where mixed teams of Japanese and international students created videos promoting the Expo’s pavilions.

Cultural Leadership: KUAS hosted a special seminar on “Creating a Future Society with ‘Ikebana’ and Science,” led by Expo Vice-Chair and legendary Ikebana Headmaster Senko Ikenobo.

Our university was also a registered “TEAM EXPO 2025 Co-creation Partner,” solidifying our commitment to building the future. Being located in Kyoto, Japan, gave our students a front-row seat to the world.
