Student Spotlight: Robotics & A Future in Japan

Jan 19, 2026

For students dreaming of a career in technology, there is no better classroom than Japan.

Sergey Gaponov, a first-year student from Kazakhstan, grew up dreaming of becoming an astronaut. Today, he is building a tangible future in robotics at the KUAS Faculty of Engineering.

Engineering in English Sergey’s journey began with a search for a university that offered a top-tier engineering program entirely in English. KUAS stood out not just for its language accessibility, but for its industry connections.

“KUAS has given me the keys to make a future living and working in Japan happen,” Sergey shares. He points to the university’s unique “Capstone Projects“—where students work with real Japanese companies to solve engineering problems—as a major advantage for his future career.

While studies in physics and math are rigorous, Sergey makes the most of his downtime. He enjoys the vibrant student life in Kyoto, listening to hip-hop and exploring the city with friends. He is also actively improving his Japanese language skills to ensure he is ready for the Japanese job market upon graduation.

Why KUAS?

KUAS is the gateway to the Japanese tech industry. By combining an English-based engineering curriculum with intensive Japanese language support, he is preparing to turn his childhood dreams into a professional reality.
